You know yourself that you need to fix your roof, build the facade of your house, or drive down the driveway. You are well aware that there are many companies on the market advertising their work. And even though most of them are experts in their own right, some of them are such duds that you want to stomp them into the ground after their “job” is done.
Let me give you the first example. A friend and his wife returned to the country from the city and moved into the family home. Together they began to renovate that house. However, they were short on time and decided to hire a contractor. All they needed was a sidewalk and driveway to the house. The president of the company came with his workers, looked at the work, calculated it, and told them the price and the construction period. The construction period was one week. The village did not have a store, so my friend, who was often on vacation, made lunches, coffee, and snacks. She must have liked it so much that it took a month instead of the promised week. She liked it too.
And they only worked a total of six hours a day; after three weeks, even her husband became uncomfortable and stepped in. They charged 75,000 crowns after that month for driveway, sidewalks, and labor. My friend was willing to pay whatever it took to get them out. But within two months, the sidewalk began to cave in. She complained and when they finally came to fix it almost two weeks after she complained, everyone was drunk except the driver. So they set out to resolve the problem through their lawyer. This was a year ago and they have yet to fix the sidewalk or issue a statement.
Example 2: A friend had his car in for repairs. My friend has always repaired it because he understands, but just because it is an old car, something could go wrong. The week Peter\’s engine broke down, the friend was away on a business trip. He had another car, so we told him to drive the other one anyway and we would take a look at it when he arrived. He didn\’t listen to us. He serviced the car and 4 out of 9 people complained that the mechanic was incompetent. He charged us for repairs that didn\’t need to be done. And he said it was expensive. Not everyone sits down with everyone else, there is always some jerk who just does damage. He pulled the engine, resealed it, cleaned it, put it back in the car and it ran. He paid 8,000 Krona for the repairs. Yes, the car ran, but two months later it was sitting in our yard. Thanks to the mechanic, he ended up buying a brand new engine, the price of which was almost the same as a used car on a used car sales website.
It\’s hard to find quality companies these days, but when you do, and they look at both quality and quantity, it makes everything more enjoyable.
